Do Video Games Make Us Violent?

violent

Over the past few decades video game technology has surpassed expectations. When video games first began they were simple games like Pong and Frogger. Exciting for their time, these games no longer compare to the graphics and story lines of video games today. Video game developers can turn any theme or story into an interactive game that puts you in the role of a lead character. From role playing fantasy games to military style combat, video games are creating full emersion scenarios where the player almost becomes part of the game itself. As technology has progressed so has the concern that video games are contributing to the violence in our society. But are video games really to blame for a person’s violent thoughts and actions?

Two Conflicting Points-of-View

Many will say that video games, and even television, are responsible for the high increase of violent crimes. While others say that video games are simply games to entertain, not causes of people committing crimes. Regardless of which side you agree with, there are valid points to both arguments. Those that strongly believe video games contribute to violent crimes, say that exposure to violence that is presented as fun and games, makes light of the seriousness and morality of such crimes. Many hardcore gamers would argue that these are just games. They also argue that the violence we see on the news everyday is just as much to blame as any video game. Wouldn’t the better question to ask be: Are we too desensitized to violence?

Desensitizing of the Masses

Whether the fault lies with video games, or some other media outlet, it is true that, as a world community, we have all been desensitized to violence. This does not mean that everyone is going to run out and began committing violent crimes. What is does mean is that we are all used to seeing violence everywhere; on television shows, in the movies, in video games, on the nightly news reports. Maybe the more important thought should be how we balance the violence in our everyday lives with higher morals and empathy.

Creating a Violence Free World

While a utopia where there is no violence, death, or hatred sounds wonderful; it is not practical. As long as there are societies where massacres still happen and people are victims of violent crimes simply because of race, religion, or sexual orientation, violence will always be a part of our everyday life. As long as people continue to condemn one other for their differences we cannot really place blame on an inanimate object for the increase in violence. Societies where children do not even have access to television, much less video games, are some of the most violent areas in the world. Logically, there must be some other reason for these crimes against innocent people. An individual’s immediate environment, more than likely, has more to do with their capacity for violence. Pair a violent upbringing with additional factors, like mental and emotional health, and it begins to create a formula for violence. No one person, society, or even government can put an end to violence; but one person can change their own actions and help others to do the same.

Every year video game graphics and story lines are created to be more realistic and often reflect real life violent events. War simulation games are one of the top genres for video games industry-wide. While video games are becoming increasingly more and more violent, so is the world around us. However, this does not mean that video games are responsible. Regardless of the side you stand on, every individual is response for their own individual thoughts and actions. Learning right from wrong and how to have empathy are the only ways society can reduce the violence that happens worldwide, everyday.

Why Xbox 360 Is the Preferred Choice for a Video Gaming Console

xbox

Competition for the greater market share in the world of gaming seems to be getting down to the wire. While Sony and Nintendo evolve their strategies to keep ahead of the pack, Microsoft keeps pulling new surprises from their bags. In fact, Microsoft seems to have resolved to keep their Xbox 320 constantly alive in the gaming world. Xbox 360 has seen numerous changes since it hit the market. The motivating factors behind the constant changes in functionality and technology efficiency are not obvious. But it is not unusual to suspect that the competition in the gaming world is the reason.

Microsoft Pulls A Fast One on Competition

Microsoft appears to have dedicated lots of time and resources towards improvement of their gaming console: Xbox 360.The idea of changing control interface mechanism seems to be paying off. In fact, it has led to quick responses from its competitors such as Sony. With Xbox 360, motion gaming becomes more fun because it is interactive and is made almost real. With Xbox 360, your hands are released to move naturally and play. The device is a control-pane-free console that applies nonconventional controls to run the game. You only need to utter commands and make gestures to effect activity on the Xbox 360. Besides, the device responds to body movement. The idea is that you begin to almost touch and mix with the video characters on the device display. It feels like a 3D experience. The response to this development on the gaming arena by the competitors does not seem to yield the exact results that Xbox 360; from Microsoft, gives. This has had the advantage of possibly boosting the technology trust and confidence among the clientele; especially those with unwavering loyalty to Microsoft products. It is viewed as having an edge over the rest.

Is Microsoft Xbox 360 Versatile?

The desire to have a one stop entertainment platform cannot be overemphasized. The demands of modern day do not give room to the luxury of entertainment. No one seems to have the money to buy all that they need either. Video game consoles have been widely designed as dedicated to playing video games. The situation has begun to change. The global village we live in seems to have had it all set for a revolution. Ideas are witnessed, copied and adapted to an ever changing set up. The idea of a one stop shop is one that has seen the emergence of malls and hypermarkets where you can buy everything money can buy. Microsoft appears to have adopted this approach in the design of the Xbox 360.This is a device that can serve as an efficient gaming console; entirely meant for fun and entertainment then change its function to a high resolution TV set. Xbox 360 has an inbuilt memory capacity that allows large storage of your favorite video games and recorded episodes you wish to review. You can also connect to the internet for the latest games and interact with other players across the globe.

The Gaming Experience with Xbox 360

Xbox 360 has many titles in its library. In other words, it has games that can be played on several other consoles. The idea of Xbox seems to be, to spread possibilities. But it also comes with system specific titles such as Gears of War. The movement interface operation mechanism with Xbox is a notable development in the console technologies. Xbox can sense the location of the gamer in the room and map out any movements you make.
